Citizen Talks for Europe

The information office of the European Commission in Bizkaia, EUROPE DIRECT and the Basque council of the European Movement; Eurobasque, organized a session of Citizen Talks in the La Ribera’s market.

In this session, the participants were Joxerramon Bengoetxea, General Secretair of EUROBASQUE, Maite Zalla, professor of the Public Basque Country University, Ana Juárez, from de Direction of communication of the European Commission and Laura Gómez, professor of Deusto University and member of the EUCLIPE Jean Monnet Chair.

All of them agreed on the importance of the citizens when it comes to decide how the European Union should be. Furthermore, some citizen who attended shared their doubts and objections over some points such as the European Budget for agriculture, the possibility to achieve a Federal Europe and climate change.

The ex-Eurodeputy Paquita Sauquillo shares her vision about the social challenges in Europe

Paquita Sauquillo, lawyer, President of the NGO ‘’Movimiento por la Paz, el desarme y la libertad1’’, ex-senator and ex-Eurodeputy, has been invited by the Chair Jean Monnet EUCLIPE on May 21st. This event has been sponsored by EP to campus program of European Parliament Former Members Association.

Through her visit, she has shared her point of view over the 4 Challenges of the Social Europe. She has commented her worries about migration, climate change and unemployment, starting since the achievements of Europe, being the only continent in which the welfare state it is present, promoting citizenship and solidarity.

Sauquillo expressed the need of proactivity in order to make us responsible for the future of Europe, making special attention to the anti-European movements and the next European elections.

During the days, Paquita Sauquillo has participated in a colloquium with professors of the Law Department and a lunch colloquium some students of the Deusto University’s dormitory.

The Basque Ombudsman, Manuel Lezertua, has given the lecture ‘’The European Justice of Human Rights’’.

Manuel Lezertua is a prestigious jurist in the field of human rights. During his prominent carrier, it must be highlighted that he has been international officer of the Council of Europe, director of the European commissariat for Human Rights and counsel of European Court of Human Rights.

Thanks to his invaluable experience he has given his vision about the main aspects in the current discussion over the Human Rights within the Council of Europe and the European Union.

This conference has been organised by EUCLIPE Jean Monnet Chair and the europeist association Eurgetxo.

‘’Solidarity in Europe which protects and saves lifes’’ – Christos Stylianides at Deusto University

Christos Stylianides, commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis management, has participates in discussion called ‘’Solidarity in Europe which protects and saves lifes’’ in Deusto University; in which students, professors and the audience could ask him questions about different topics such as the Refugee crisis and the response of the EU to the Africa’s crisis

During the session, the commissioner explained the significant importance of young European citizens participation in the European elections as they have to be who decide the future of Europe.

Students of Loiola Legal Association work with the European guide ¿How to write clearly?

Many people see themselves undefended against administrative and law documents. Against this problem the European Unión has edited in the guide ‘’Cómo escribir con claridad’’ as they believe in that documents which are clear is more effective and it is better understood. That it is known as plain language.

Following that spirit, Clínica Jurídica Loiola1 has developed a lecturer featuring the organization ‘’Lectura Fácil Euskadi Irakurteka Erreza2, to improve the legibility and the comprehension of the documents we write.

The workshop has been given on February the 14th to the students of the Law Faculty of Deusto University
