Last March 16, we hosted the first conference of the Seminar on the New Challenges of the EU, framed in the First Rounf of Seminars and Conferences of ELSA. This event was derived from the collaboration among the EUCLIPE Jean Monnet Chair, the SAPIA Jean Monnet Module and ELSA.

During the session, we could listen, on the one hand, to María Luisa Sánchez Barrueco, proffesor of EU Law at Deusto University and Holder of the SAPIA Jean Monnet Chair, who offered us a lecture on the negotiations and possible post-Brexit scenarios given her direct experience as she was present, in January this year, in the EU Committee of the House of Lords in order to inform the Members of the Chamber about the budgetary and financial consquences of Brexit. On the other hand, we had the opportunity of hosting Rocco Caira’s lecture, currently lawyes, professor of Business Law and Deusto and Honorary Consul of Ireland. Rocco offered the students an very interesting insight on the meaning of borders and also about the particular problems concerning Ireland in the context of Brexit. The Conference was chaired by the President of ELSA Deusto (Bilbao), Alex Soroiu.
