Participation in the 5th Conference on Social Innovation and Digital-Social Transformation

The 5th Global Research Conference “Social Innovation and Socio-Digital Transformation”, towards a comprehensive innovation policy organized by ESSI (The European School for Social Innovation) was held in Dortmund (Germany) on 28-29 October 2019. 

The “European School of Social Innovation”, in cooperation with the TU Dortmund University and the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, plans and designs the event “Social Innovation and Socio-Digital Transformation”, a key event on social innovation in the year 2019. It brought together representatives of scientific concepts, policy approaches and outstanding initiatives in social innovation. The conference also brought together leading experts in social innovation research.

In the framework of the FP7 SI-DRIVE project, the “Atlas of Social Innovation” report presents a comprehensive overview of global initiatives in social innovation. The Atlas provides information on the various approaches used in different regions of the world and in policy areas such as employment, education, environment, climate change, energy, transport, health, poverty and sustainable development.

The Basque Country is one of the regions analysed. Marta Enciso, SI-DRIVE PI from DEUSTO, was one of the researchers in charge of analyzing the evolution of the Basque Country in terms of social innovation. In fact, in the last 10 years, social innovation in this Community has gone from being framed in the social economy to being part of the regional innovation system.

The EUCLIPE Jean Monnet Chair participates in the workshop: ”With the hands in the dough”

The EUCLIPE Jean Monnet Chair has participated in the retreat ‘’: paving the way to the social impact dimension of research’’ organised by Deusto University. This event had the honour to count with the prominent figures of the Deusto University dean, José María Guibert, the deputy minister of research of the Basque government, Adolfo Morais and the responsible for research and innovation of the European Commission, Harald Hartung.

This event permitted to exchange ideas and sensations among the participants related to the investigation’s dynamic, specifically, over the aspects to improve in every steps of the research: planification, development and evaluation of the research social impact.

During the day many topics were discussed but never forgetting the three main objectives of the retreat. Firstly, to show the need of investigate from different approaches and with research leader with different positions. Then, to analysis the tools to measure the impact of research in society. Lastly, how to eliminate the existing tensions from the different approaching mindset.

Conference – Refugees and the European Union – Answers from Law perspective

Joana Abrisketa, professor of International law and headmistress of transnational law faculty, exposed some key points of the European policies for refuge matters and the issues raised from the massive arrival of refugees after the Syrian war. Then, Maria Nagore, professor of International Law of the Law Faculty, focused on the influence of these polices outside the European region. Both professors presented some measures to improve the humanitarian assistance in accordance with international law.

This conference is within the Cycle of International Conferences: New Challenges of the European Union co-organised by the EUCLIPE Jean Monnet chair and the student law association ELSA (European Law Student’s Association). More than 100 law students, in which we may find Pure Law, Economic Specialisation Law and the double degree of International Relation and Law, had attended the conference with the association EUROGETXO.

Conference: The new economic governance of the European Union

Luis Gordillo, professor of Constitutional Law of department addressed the economic model of the European Integration, reflected on the highest rules been consider as the ‘’Economic European Constitution’’. Moreover, the professor Laura Gómez Urquijo, member of the EUCLIPE Jean Monnet chair, questioned the integration of the social objectives in such model. Moreover, she proposed some approaches in order to join both frames while the exigence of the Europena states is increasing.

Economic, Political and Social challenges of the European Unión, A conference of Monica Frassoni

The ex-member of the European Parliament Monica Frassoni, President of the Green group, gave a lecture in which she expressed her awareness over different challenges that the European has to face such as refugee crisis and the lack of participation of the citizen in the European projects and the need of European states to follow the European Union framework.

The conference is within the frame of the International Cycle of Conferences: New challenges of the European Unión co-organized by the EUCLIPO Jean Monnet Chair and the student’s association ELSA (European Law Student Assossiation). More than 100 Law students attended this conference, in which we can find pure Law students; Law with Economy specialisation and the double degree of Law and International Relations, accompanied by the EURGETXO association.
