It has evolved into a quality of paramount importance for branding the Basque Country, capturing both the social and cultural essence of the territory. It has produced numerous <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"first-rate chefs who\u2019ve earned countless Michelin stars (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.euskoguide.com\/food-drink-basque-country\/michelin-star-restaurants\/\" target=\"_blank\">first-rate chefs who\u2019ve earned countless Michelin stars<\/a>. San Sebasti\u00e1n has more <strong>Michelin stars<\/strong> per square kilometre than any other city in the world, with the exception of Kyoto in Japan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is typical to go into a bar only to find the entire counter full of <strong>pintxos<\/strong>. These small finger foods are the quintessence of local gastronomy culture and have become to be known as &#8220;haute cuisine in miniature\u201d.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:25px\" class=\"has-background has-very-light-gray-background-color\"><strong>The Basque language<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t be surprised if you overhear or read anything that does not sound or look Spanish at all while you go through a Basque street. The Basque language, the language of the Basque people, is the <strong>most ancient in Europe<\/strong> and its origin is yet unknown. The Basque have their own language that is completely distinct from Spanish and any other language in the world. Check your <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"English-Basque dictionary (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www1.euskadi.net\/morris\/dictionary.htm\" target=\"_blank\">English-Basque dictionary<\/a> online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:25px\" class=\"has-background has-very-light-gray-background-color\"><strong>The wonderful coast<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As much as Spanish swell is not associated with <strong>surfing<\/strong>, the Basque Country is popular for its <strong>fantastic surfing conditions<\/strong> and it hosts some fifty surfing championships . The <strong>Guggenheim Museum<\/strong> in Bilbao serves as a solid example. Many of theses <strong>rural games<\/strong> began as challenges or bets and range from <strong>Basque Pelota <\/strong>(hitting a ball with one&#8217;s hand) and <strong>stone-lifting <\/strong>to <strong>wood-chopping <\/strong>and <strong>Basque rowing competitions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Football <\/strong>is also a big sport in the Basque Country, having several teams in the top flight: Alav\u00e9s (based in Vitoria), Real Sociedad, Eibar, beginning to believe they are among the elite by right, and Athletic Club, a club whose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/2018\/oct\/30\/athletic-bilbao-players-la-liga\">academy manage to produce the 85% of their team<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Basque Country: a small country with a strong identity and a history stretching back over 5,000 years, with a distinctive culture and a language that is unique in the world.
