Inspira STEAM in the EU-China seminar-Empowering Girls to Participate in STEM

The purpose of the seminar was to exchange perspectives, thoughts and practices on how to address gender stereotyping and bias hindering girls’ participation in STEM, and explore the role of teachers in closing the gender gap through gender neutral teaching, and discuss the strategies to tackle institutional barriers in STEM education.

I have been honoured to be invited to visit China as a participant of the China-EU Great Wall Seminar-Empowering Girls to Participate in STEM, co-hosted by Ministry of Education, P. R. China and Directorate General Education, Youth, Culture and Sports (EAC), EU, and organized by China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) and Department of Education of Zhejiang Province, China. The Seminar took place in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, from October 15 to 16, 2024.

The purpose of the seminar was to exchange perspectives, thoughts and practices on how to address gender stereotyping and bias hindering girls’ participation in STEM, and explore the role of teachers in closing the gender gap through gender neutral teaching, and discuss the strategies to tackle institutional barriers in STEM education.

I had the opportunity to share with my European and Chinese colleague the lessons learnt and knowledge gained after 8 editions of Inspira STEAM, promoting a deeper understanding and prejudge-free choice of the science and technology fields among girls in primary education.
