
Lola Fariñas ocupa una doble posición en la Universidad de Deusto (España). Por un lado, es una Investigadora Ikerbasque (Ikerbasque Research Fellow) y por otro, es Investigadora Juan de la Cierva del Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (España) en el Instituto Tecnológico DeustoTech de la Universidad de Deusto (España).
Lola Fariñas pertenece al equipo de investigación Applied Mechanics de la facultad de Ingeniería de la misma universidad. Es ingeniera de Telecomunicaciones por la Universidad de Alcalá (UAH) y doctora en Ingeniería Biomédica por la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Su investigación busca generar conocimiento con el que establecer relaciones novedosas para abordar problemas complejos. Con este fin, desarrolla técnicas y tecnologías de ultrasonidos que permiten obtener información valiosa sobre materiales de distinta naturaleza y monitorizar procesos de manera rápida, no destructiva y no invasiva.
Ha trabajado en diversos centros nacionales (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas y la Universitat Politècnica de València) como internacionales (Massachusetts Institute of Technology (EEUU), University of Glasgow (Reino Unido), Harvard University (EEUU) y University of California (EEUU)), donde ha desarrollado su investigación en ámbitos como la caracterización de materiales compuestos, la ecofisiología de plantas o la tecnología de alimentos.
Sus líneas de investigación actuales se centran en la caracterización e inspección sin contacto de baterías para su estudio, clasificación y control de calidad; la estimación no invasiva del estado hídrico de plantas, con especial énfasis en la optimización del riego en cultivos; y los ensayos no destructivos en la fabricación de materiales compuestos y en la industria alimentaria.

Who carries out research at the University of Deusto? Meet Lola Fernández Caballero Fariñas

Lola Fariñas is an Ikerbasque Research Fellow at the University of Deusto and a Juan de la Cierva Researcher funded by Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities at the DeustoTech Technological Institute of the University of Deusto (Spain).
Lola Fariñas is a member of the Applied Mechanics research team at the Faculty of Engineering of the same university. She holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Alcalá (UAH, Spain) and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spain). Her research aims to generate knowledge to establish novel connections for tackling complex problems. To this end, she develops ultrasound techniques and technologies that provide valuable insights into materials of various types, allowing for the fast, non-destructive, and non-invasive monitoring of processes.
She has worked at various national institutions (the Spanish National Research Council and the Polytechnic University of Valencia) as well as international ones (Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), University of Glasgow (UK), Harvard University (USA), and University of California (USA)), where she has conducted research in areas such as composite material characterisation, plant ecophysiology, and food technology.
Her current research focuses on the non-contact characterisation and inspection of batteries for the purposes of studying, classifying, and ensuring quality control; non-invasive estimation of the water status of plants, with particular emphasis on optimising irrigation in crops; and non-destructive testing in the manufacturing of composite materials and the food industry.
