
Gema Aonso Diego es Investigadora Juan de la Cierva del Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (España) en la Universidad de Deusto (España). Pertenece a la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud y al equipo de investigación reconocido por el Gobierno Vasco, Evaluación, Clínica y Salud.
Gema Aonso Diego es psicóloga, con un máster en Psicología General Sanitaria y otro máster en Tabaquismo. Realizó su tesis doctoral en la Universidad de Oviedo (España) sobre el tratamiento del tabaquismo en personas con trastorno por uso de sustancias, obteniendo su doctorado en Psicología en 2022. Recientemente ha recibido el Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado en Ciencias de la Salud.
Su línea de investigación versa sobre la evaluación, prevención e intervención de las conductas adictivas. Ha publicado un total de 47 artículos científicos en revistas de impacto y 18 capítulos de libro. Además, es miembro de la junta directiva de la Sociedad Española de Especialistas en Tabaquismo (SEDET), forma parte del grupo de trabajo del ENSP (European Network for Tobacco and Smoking Prevention), y del Proyecto cannabis-tabaco promovido por el Comité Nacional de Prevención del Tabaquismo.
Uno de sus principales hitos ha sido ser premiada por la Sociedad Científica Socidrogalcohol y la sociedad americana College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD) por su carrera joven investigadora.

Who carries out research at the University of Deusto? Meet Gema Aonso Diego

Gema Aonso Diego is a Juan de la Cierva Research Fellow, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, at the University of Deusto (Spain). She is part of the Faculty of Health Sciences and a member of the Clinical Assessment and Health research group accredited by the Basque Government.
Gema Aonso Diego is a psychologist with a Master’s degree in General Health Psychology and a second Master’s in Tobacco Addiction. She completed her PhD at the University of Oviedo (Spain), focusing on smoking cessation treatment in individuals with substance use disorders, and was awarded her PhD in Psychology in 2022. She was recently honoured with the Extraordinary Doctorate Award in Health Sciences.
Her research centres on the assessment, prevention, and treatment of addictive behaviours. She has published 47 articles in high-impact journals and 18 book chapters. In addition, she serves on the executive board of the Spanish Society of Tobacco Specialists (SEDET), is an active member of the working group of the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention (ENSP), and contributes to the Cannabis-Tobacco Project led by the Spanish National Committee for Tobacco Prevention.
One of her most notable achievements has been receiving awards from the scientific society Socidrogalcohol and the American College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD) in recognition of her early-career research excellence.
