Xabier Landabidea Urresti, assistant researcher and PhD candidate of the Institute of Leisure Studies has presented the preliminary conclusions of his thesis in the «Creativity and Connectivity in Audience Research» COST Action ISO906 congress in Tampere, Finland. The intervention titled «Television as an (intergenerational) leisure artefact» has taken place during the Generations and Media Interest Group meeting.
The author proposes the figure of television as an artefact for and of leisure, and presents a preliminary comparison of the televisual leisure experiences of different age groups in relation to the leisure coordinates of the Humanist Leisure perspective, based on the written and oral account of the fieldwork of his study. He concludes that significant differences (and simmilarities) exist between different age groups, and that both age and subjective affiliations to media-related generations show a strong correlation with the differences found regarding the understanding and experience of television in present times.
